THE ORIGINAL HIPSTER DEPARTMENT STORE

Since 1982, Rockin Rudy’s has been Missoula’s go-to spot for music, mayhem, and must-have treasures. A 25,000-square-foot wonderland of records, gifts, jewelry, toys, cards, paper products, incense, posters, art, bags, candy, t-shirts, clothing, hats and everything in between.

We’ve got stuff you need, stuff you don’t, and stuff you won’t find anywhere else—but suddenly can’t live without.

Housed in a 1920s bakery, we’ve been keeping Missoula weird and wild since day one.

Deeply rooted in the city’s art and music scene, Rudy’s doesn’t just sell vinyl, CDs, cassettes & DVDs—we’re a hub for local shows, ticket sales, and the coolest event posters.

And if you’re a vinyl junkie? Record Heaven is your paradise, with over a couple hundred thousand records plus turntables, cartridges, and vintage audio gear to keep the music spinning.

Some call us a hipster department store; others say it’s a labyrinth of rock & roll, nostalgia, and offbeat finds. Either way, every visit feels like a new adventure—you never know what you’ll find.

ROCKIN RUDY’S

A Timeline of Treasures, Tunes & Total Mayhem

1982

— It all starts with a record.

After running a record store in Bend, OR, music lover Bruce Micklus brought his passion to Missoula, opening the very first Rockin Rudy’s in a humble storefront with a big vision. With a killer vinyl collection in tow, Bruce kicks things off with just used records, posters, and a passion for curating cool. Renting records and selling blank tapes, way cool.

1980s

— Expansion, evolution, and mayhem.

As music booms, so does Rudy’s. Word spreads fast—this isn’t just a record store, it’s a vibe. Rudy’s starts stocking quirky gifts, band tees, incense, and underground zines. Missoula locals (and college kids) flock here for tunes, tickets, and the scene. It’s weird. It’s wonderful. It’s home.

1990s

— The legend begins to grow.

Rudy’s outgrows its first few spots and finally lands in a sprawling 25,000-square-foot former 1920s bakery.

Now with room to roam, the store becomes a full-blown sensory overload—records, candy, lava lamps, jewelry, greeting cards, action figures, and enough incense to fog the entire city.

2000s

— Vinyl lives, and so does Rudy’s.

While the rest of the world goes digital, Rudy’s doubles down on analog.

The vinyl revival begins, and Record Heaven is born—an entire section (or planet?) devoted to wax. From rare pressings to new releases, plus gear to spin it on.

2010s

— A hub for art, music, and Missoula culture.

Rudy’s leans even deeper into local. The shop becomes the spot to grab concert tickets, meet friends, and score the latest collaborations with musicians, indie brands, and local artists.

2020s

— Rudy’s gets even better with age.

As Rudy’s turns 40, we open Rockin Rudy’s Attic—a shrine to rare music memorabilia, vintage posters, and decades of collectible chaos that just need to see the light of day and meet the public eye.

From Star Wars figures to signed guitars, it’s a whole new level of awesome.

Today & counting...

— Rudy’s isn’t just a store—it’s a rite of passage.

A Hipster Department store for the delightfully offbeat. A labyrinth of stuff you didn’t know you needed.

A place where every aisle tells a story, every visit feels like a treasure hunt, and every customer walks out a little cooler than they walked in.
